Read Together and Win Great Prizes

Read With Me Week

Families with children 5 years old and under can celebrate Read With Me Week by tracking read-aloud sessions from Wednesday, February 26 through Wednesday, March 5. Sponsored by numerous community organizations, Read With Me Week promotes early childhood literacy throughout Garfield County.

With each read-aloud session completed, children will color a portion of a special tracking form. Participating families will be entered into drawing for prizes such as new books and gift certificates to local retailers and area attractions.

"We know that early literacy skills are highly correlated with future success in school and in life. Read-aloud time has the added benefit of building strong family bonds, and it delivers a powerful message to the child about the family’s commitment to learning,” noted Rick Blauvelt, Executive Director of the local Raising A Reader program. Carol Federman, Regional Coordinator for Reach Out and Read added: “Parents are every child’s first and most important teacher. Reading to a child is the single most effective tool for the development of that child’s language and literacy skills.”

For read-aloud tracking forms visit your local library. For more information call Raising A Reader at 970-230-9117.
