Raising A Reader (RAR) is an early literacy and family engagement program for children ages 0-8 that helps families develop book-sharing routines with their child.

Unlike the MPAA, we do not assign a single, age-specific rating and we do not make recommendations. Instead we assign each film three distinct, category-specific ratings: one for sex and nudity, one for violence and gore and one for profanity. Each rating is on a scale of zero to ten, depending on quantity (more F-words, for instance, will mean a higher Profanity rating, and so on) as well as context (especially when it comes to the categories of sex, nudity, violence and gore, since they are not as easily quantifiable as profanity). -from Kids in Mind

Your local library offers regular programming that is open to homeschool students. This may include STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) classes, book clubs, book to movie days, and other events for kids ages Kindergarten and up. Watch our calendar for programs that may be of interest to your family.

We can help teachers find materials to support classroom lessons, curate book recommendations, as well as in-class book talks with one of our librarians Bring your classes to our libraries to get a library card and to learn how the library works and the resources that can help them with their reading skills, homework, test practice, STEM materials and classes and much more.

We treasure community involvement, especially with our schools. With our Outreach Programs, the library can coordinate with your plan and standards to enhance your lesson. Critical thinking skills and cognitive reasoning come into play with programs that feature mysteries and more. Let us do the work, we’ll bring the program to you!
The library is a great place for a field trip at any age from preschool through high school. As a child, a field trip to the library can be fun, engaging and exciting. An older student visiting the library on a class field trip could find an important key to success. The library has many resources for research, databases for learning and homework help, access to practice tests for the ACT and SAT and much more. You can also schedule a field trip to a library program!
