Library Cards

Sign up for a library card online

Please note that applying for a card online will grant you an Internet Access Pass which allows you to use our online resources and computers; to receive full borrowing privileges you must provide a photo ID and a mailing address at any of the Garfield County Libraries. Only one card is allowed per individual. Library cards expire biennially but can be renewed by contacting your branch library by phone or in person.

Please read our complete Circulation Policy

Choose Your New Library Card At Your Local Branch

Borrowing privileges will be extended free of charge to residents of Garfield County in accordance with C.R.S. 24-90-103, and to all Colorado residents. In order to borrow materials from Garfield County Libraries, Borrowers must register for a Library Card.

Borrowers must use a valid Library Card to borrow Library materials. If a Borrower does not have a Library Card in their possession, they will be required to provide sufficient information to confirm their identity before using the account. Family members may choose to link Library Cards allowing them to share Library Card information. Library Card information must be renewed every two years, except as otherwise noted in Library Card Types below. If not renewed, cards which are free of accrued charges and have not been used for a period of six (6) years will be purged from the database.

All applicants for a Full Access Library Card must provide government-issued photo identification and a mailing address. A Limited Access Library Card is available to Borrowers without government-issued photo identification and a mailing address that allows limited borrowing privileges. If you apply online you will receive your library card number electronically. You will be required to show identification the first time you check out any materials from a branch to receive a Full Access Library Card.

Government-issued photo ID from one of the following:

  • Driver’s license
  • DMV-issued state ID card
  • Government-issued ID card
  • Permanent resident card (green card)

Alternate identification may be accepted at the discretion of the Branch Manager.

Cards are issued only to individuals. The Borrower assumes responsibility for all items checked on the card. Corporate or institutional cards are not issued. Exceptions can be made by the Library Director or designated representative.

Library cards can be replaced by visiting a Garfield County Library.

All items within the library’s collection may be borrowed for 21 days, unless otherwise noted. Certain types of material may be subject to further restriction due to reasons such as high demand, high cost, or rare/archival materials. Such items include but are not limited to Colorado Collection, interlibrary loan, reference, and state park passes. If the due date falls on a holiday or a day the library is closed, the loan period will be extended until the next day the library is open.

There are no limits on the number of items a Borrower may have checked out at one time, as long as the Borrower’s account is in good standing (i.e. account is not blocked from borrowing materials).
The Library will automatically renew borrowed items twice after the initial due date, if the item is not reserved for other library users and the Borrower’s account is in good standing (i.e. account is not blocked from borrowing materials). Each renewal will extend the due date by twenty-one (21) days.

Some items may not be taken out of the building as their physical format is very susceptible to damage; they are often impossible to replace in case of loss; and, they are frequently used as reference sources.

Borrowers can place holds on items through all of the consortial member libraries. These items will be kept on the hold shelf awaiting patron pickup for eight (8) days after the item has been received by Borrower’s home library.
Overdue notices will be sent at seven (7) days and thirty (30) days past due, and a billing notice will be sent at sixty (60) days past due. The first two notices will be sent electronically if an email address is on file. The third notice will be mailed and sent electronically.
