GCPLD Celebrates National Poetry Month and invites writers of all ages to submit up to 3 poems for a Haiku Contest and Poetry Journal

Haiku is a Japanese poem of 17 syllables, in three lines of 5, 7, and 5, traditionally evoking images of the natural world Contest submissions must be original work in standard haiku form, and received by April 16th.  Winning haiku poems will earn a gift certificate for an ice cream cone!

On a daily basis, Hilary Zaranek and her husband Andrew Anderson use creative ranch management which allows them to coexist with a high density of grizzly bears, wolves, mountain lions, elk, sage grouse, and more native species in southwest Montana, just outside of Yellowstone National Park. Here they graze upwards of 3,000 cows annually while maintaining an economically sustainable business and ecologically thriving landscape.

Join us every Monday at the Glenwood Springs Branch Library for a Mommy Meet-Up. Designed for moms and babies ages 0-3. There will be play items provided for the little ones, and coffee and conversation for the moms. Meet new friends, make lasting connections, and just get out of the house! 

Stories, songs, and silliness for our youngest library patrons and their caregivers. This storytime is perfect for children ages 0-2.

Books, snacks, songs, and crafts at the library! Join us for a traditional library storytime for children ages 3-6 and their caretakers.

Enjoy drop-in games of American Mah Jongg at the library where adult players of all levels are welcome.

Join us for a community movie night where we'll have movies that youth ages 10-15 will love, popcorn and drinks, and a fun time together! Open to all ages, parental supervision required for those under 12.

Join us for a sensory storytime designed for preschool and school aged neurodivergent and sensory seeking children and their caretakers. Your child can enjoy a sensory play experience while listening to a story - with no need to sit still, make eye contact, or control fidgeting. We’ll have clear transitions, a visual schedule, interactive stories, and time to play!

Calling all chess players and those interested in learning! We’ll get together at the Glenwood Springs Branch Library to learn, practice, and challenge each other in this timeless game of strategy. Several chess sets will be provided, but feel free to bring your own. Free and open to all ages. For more information call the library at 970-945-5958.

VOICES, in partnership with Garfield County Libraries, invites youth (ages 10-16) and sage (ages 75+) members of the community to a safe and welcoming space to cultivate story sharing and deep listening. We’ll get together from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Glenwood Springs Branch Library on Thursday, April 17 and also on Thursday, May 15. We’ll share stories to learn about one another and understand the intricacies of life. Snacks and a skilled facilitator will be provided. Come ye brave adventurers! Great mysteries and secrets lie within the great library-fortress of Candlekeep, and you have been tasked with finding them! This adventure is best suited for those aged 12 and above, but accommodations can be made should any child adventurers wish to join. There is limited space in our party so please sign up at the front desk should you wish to join.
